Rocky Mountain Sheep Down!

A big congrats goes out to Tommy Z. for harvesting this awesome looking sheep.  He hunted very hard in some big road less country before finding this awesome ram up on a rock perch with his ewes.  The area he drew did not have a lot of sheep in it at this time, maybe due to the very warm weather we have been having.  After watching this ram for a long time trying to decide if he was a shooter the decision was made and Tommy made a great 400 yard shot across the canyon to anchor his AZ Rocky. It looks like these sheep are just starting to rut when in most years they should be done already.  The Game and Fish aged it at 8 years old and right at 170 inches B&C.  Awesome job Tommy and CONGRATS again.

Sheep and Elk!!

Thanks to the Game and Fish moving back every elk hunt in the state, now the late elk hunt and the AZ sheep hunts start a day apart.  That is a big issue if your trying to guide hunters in both hunts.  With the long weekend we got out and glassed a couple different Rocky Mountain Sheep units and also some of the elk  units we will be hunting this coming weekend.  The late elk hunts are just not as fun as the early hunts by any means! The quality goes way down and it is way colder and the biggest reason it is not as fun is they are not bugling.. Enjoy the pics and check back to see how the elk and sheep hunts went!  Good luck to all that have elk and sheep tags that start this weekend, shoot straight or shoot often what ever works better for you....

The picture of the ram that is blurry and a little farther away is a different ram than the one with the one ewe.. Some good rams and a couple smaller rams.

Mexico Bighorn Sheep Down!

This is a friend that I have known for a long time and is an avid hunter.  This is a brief comment about the hunt that came in the email to me "I harvested this nice critter just across the border in Mexico last week on the 9th day of a 10 day hunt.  It was very grueling on the eyes and legs! J  I brought my bow down with great expectations but after few sheep were spotted for 5 days it was decided to use one of their weapons in camp and on day 9 I was able to sneak to within 90 yards and put my 1st sheep in the books.
He’s classic for this area and about average in size at 161” B&C.  They had so much rain in Nov and December that food was all over and had most of the sheep very high and in little hide-e-holes.  We had to climb significantly and search to get to them!  I was the lucky one who spotted this ram after glassing back to a canyon we had just glassed.  It made for a cool end of the hunt!"

Awesome Job Kevin!!  A huge congrats on a beautiful sheep.  Got to love those Mexico red horns.

Ram down!

I just got back from the Arizona Desert hunting desert Bighorn sheep.  Here are a couple pics to start with until I can get everything in order and get the rest of the pics up and get the video edited.   We shot this ram at 504 yards.  It was an awesome hunt with some great people.

I know me on a horse is a little scary.

Huge Desert Sheep with a bow!

Kevin Slone completed his goal of taking a huge Desert Sheep with his bow and arrow.  After beating the odds and finally drawing the tag of a life time the quest had begun.  Here are some of the pictures his brother Rick was texting me as they found the sheep.  After discussing the probable score of the ram the stalk was on, an hour later the ram finally presented Kevin with the shot he was looking for.  With the steep angle the compensating range finder said 47 yards and the arrow hit its mark.  Congrats Kevin on a awesome sheep with your bow, your the man!!

This awesome Ram green scored 175 Gross and 172 4/8 net.  After the 60 day drying period this ram will be high in the record book.

Sheep update Part 1-No kill yet!!

We are back for a couple days to get some work caught up, before heading back down.  The weather was a little challenging to say the least.  We had found three awesome rams prior to season and none of these rams we found during our latest trip to sheep country.  We put over 80 miles on the horses and saw a fair amount of sheep with the largest being in the 160 range.  Here are a couple pictures of some of the rams we encountered these last days since the hunt started.

I will keep you updated on the progress of the hunt.  This unit is very tough with very little access and lots of huge cut up country with out a lot of sheep.
